Have you ever heard of the Gede Ruins in Kenya? It’s a fascinating archaeological site dating back to the 13th century.
The ruins were discovered in the early 20th century and have since been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The ruins offer insight into the unique Swahili culture that once inhabited the area, and it’s incredible to see how well-preserved some of the structures are.
Walking among the ruins is like stepping back in time, with numerous ancient buildings and mosques waiting to be explored.
One of the most interesting features is probably the Great Mosque, built entirely of coral stones and featuring intricate carvings and decorations.
Visitors can also visit ancient tombs, gardens, and even a small museum on-site.
Furthermore, at the entrance, we’ll be greeted by many friendly monkeys, accustomed to the presence and interaction with humans, who are very fond of the bananas brought by tourists! It’s almost impossible not to have them stolen from our hands.
